Insurance and liability

Van Traa advises and litigates in all areas of insurance and liability law. Our clients are insurance companies, brokers, entrepreneurs, lawyers and financial service providers.

Our specialists have a thorough knowledge of the insurance practice. We provide advice regarding policy coverage disputes, proxies, reinsurance and the drafting of policy conditions. Furthermore, we regularly answer questions regarding the scope and content of supervisiory legislation (such as the Dutch Financial Supervision Act (Wet financieel toezicht), for instance on licensing requirements, the duty of care and codes of conduct. We also advise on the contractual division and limitation of risks and liability.

At home and abroad we are renowned for our expertise and years of experience dealing with complex liability issues, such as agricultural company damage after natural disasters, government liability for large infrastructural works, employer liability, professional liability and personal damages.

In the event of large calamities or media sensitive cases, Van Traa’s specialists not only assist in solving the legal issues, but also help the client by managing the situation, for example with (crisis) communication.
As knowledge partner of the master ‘Insurance & Liability’ of Erasmus University Rotterdam, our lawyers are well-informed of the latest developments within their field of expertise. Most of our lawyers work as tutors at one or more Dutch universities or give academic courses. The team regularly organizes seminars, branch specific knowledge sessions and student master classes to share its knowledge and experience. Moreover, Van Traa is one of the founding partners of the Dutch Insurance Bourse Society (Vereniging Nederlandse Assurantie Beurs, VNAB).
