Nol van Hal discusses in 'Ports & Harbors' the pollution in the port of Rotterdam caused by the ocean-going vessel "Bow Jubail" (p. 32-33). Parties who suffer damage as a result of oil pollution caused by ships should, where appropriate, be aware of how the ship in question is qualified. This classification determines the rules under which the shipowner may be able to limit his liability. An incorrect classification may result in injured parties receiving less than they are entitled to.
